Excerpt Ten: Failure (Retreat Defeated)

HFCS in the water supply, we're toast. We'll all be dead by 2050, and you'll miss us! You'll miss our taste even, save what you can synthesise. And is that s good as the real thing? Some time after that, no one will be alive to remember... so does it matter then?

Pockets of ancient species that still remain, others long extinct. Perhaps HCFS is another step along the way to the eventual dehydration and digitalisation of the lord species of the planet current.

The oldest fish I know, Karp Kool, that's right, THE Karp Kool, told me once that at least raptors never had the hubris to alter their genetic make up.

All I can do is hole up in the Surmarine for a couple decades and see how this all pans out. You'll just have to reach me by email or something, and I promise I'll visit regularly until it becomes too toxic to do so. Sorry to end on a low note, but there's simply not enough room for all of you, and you really can't blame me for that...
